About the Museum
Our Story and History
The Museum of Disability History at The Viscardi Center, a non-profit, is one of Long Island’s newest cultural institutions. Housed within the Kornreich Institute for Disability Studies, its collection is made up of over 8,000 artifacts, documents, books and photographic images that chronicle the story of the disability rights movement from its origin through modern-day.

Our Mission
The Museum of Disability History serves as an archival and cultural hub to advance the understanding, recognition and acceptance of people with disabilities as valued members of the community. The Museum’s exhibits, archives and educational programs will facilitate awareness, dialogue and discovery to create a more accessible, inclusive and equitable world.
